De was born in Michigan and spent her early years on her grandparents farm. Happy memories of that time tend to show up in her paintings of children and farm animals. Her mother, an artist, instilled in her an appreciation of art.
An elementary school teacher in California for thirty-five years, she incorporated art activities for children in her classroom, exploring her own art sporadically during that time.
Upon retiring and moving to Oakhurst from the East Bay in 2000, De began to paint in earnest, taking classes from several talented local artists. Her favorite subjects are birds and animals in watercolor, pastel or acrylic. She enjoys adding a bit of whimsy now and then, and the use of strong color.
She has received awards at several of the annual YWA Tri-County Art Shows and the 2008 and 2009 Arts in Agriculture shows in Madera. Her work has been exhibited at the United Security Bank, Kaiser Clinic, and Yosemite Coffee and Roasting Company. She participated in the Sierra Art Trails in 2008. She is a member and past president of the Yosemite Western Artists.
